“He quickly stripped down to his underwear, set up his music player and went ahead to fix himself a cup of cold tea. Sitting on the edge of his bed, he soaked bits of bread in the tea and ate while his left hand scrolled up and down on his phone. He took more than he needed; even when it felt like he was going to throw up, he kept on swallowing till the cup was dry and the bag was empty. Then he rinsed the cup and drank water from it. He went to lie on his bed. It was Enya’s So I Could Find My Way playing from the speakers when he died.”
